Chronic Heart Failure

Chronic heart failure, also called cardiac insufficiency, is one of the most common forms of heart disease: alone in Germany, roughly 1.3 million people suffer from the disorder. Worldwide, this figure is estimated at approximately 22 million. And 2 million new cases are recorded every year.

The job of the heart is to pump a sufficient volume of blood through the body. When the heart is not able to perform its job adequately, the muscles and organs of the body do not receive enough oxygen. This leads to numerous physical complaints and a reduction in overall performance.

Patients have customarily been treated with drugs and, in the advanced stage, with a wide variety of different implanted systems – whereby all of these treatment methods are associated with significant side effects and risks.
